I couldn’t resist posting a sneak peak of Stephanie and Josh’s wedding last Saturday at Devil’s Thumb. I mean seriously – I am going to be going on and on and on about this wedding for a LONG time. I loved every part of this day and of the last 18 (??) months working with Stephanie and Josh to create a phenomenal wedding day for them. There will be more photos to come – lots more – but in the meantime, here is a sneak peak from the wildly talented Jamee of Jamee Photography.

As the summer wedding season is taking off here in the Colorado high country, I have had several brides asking me – seriously, how much cake do we need? If you are working with a professional baker, this is a mathematical equation that they can do in their sleep (kind of like a florist knows exactly how many stems of roses she needs for your design, the coordinator can make a wedding day timeline in no time flat, etc). But if you are opting for DIY cake service – here is a great little chart to help you plan ahead . . .

Remember to plan ahead and if someone is baking for your Colorado mountain wedding – make sure they can bake at altitude (because after living here for 10 years, I STILL don’t quite have it down). And if you need the names and numbers of some incredible bakers, call me.

Tatum and Andy’s Devil’s Thumb Ranch Wedding Fun

I really did love this day. Tatum and Andy’s Devils Thumb Ranch April wedding was absolutely neutral lovely event design perfection. Working with this couple was a dream come true (honestly, Tatum loves spreadsheets and google docs as much as I do!!), the flowers from the lovely Erin of Plum Sage were DIVINE, Matt Kenfield from Elite DJ kept the dance floor PACKED all night and (of course) Mark and Michele from IN Photography took absolutely GORGEOUS photos of the entire day. Enjoy this Colorado wedding loveliness . . .

Two words – balsa wood flowers (okay, I guess that was three words) Mixed with the succulents and the asitble – absolutely amazing.

This lake is absolutely one of my favorite locations on the entire ranch property. And the reflection – perfection. Looking at the ground – it’s hard to believe this wedding was in April in the Colorado Mountains. And to think – Tatum thought she was getting a winter wedding!

Love the dresses. Love the boots. Love the print work. Love the WHOLE THING.

Recipe for ranch wedding design neutral love = Mercury glass + burlap + beige+ gray+ blush + champagne. And the dessert bar from Tee + Cakes (YUM) yes please!

I hope every couple has as much fun at their wedding as Tatum and Andy did. And I can’t wait to hear all about Thailand! Much love.

Friday Happy Hour – Colorado Signature Drinks — Lavender Champagne

In honor of all things lavender (the theme of Stephanie and Josh’s wedding this weekend!) I thought this would be the perfect week to share the recipe for Lavender Champagne (doesn’t it sound divine) And the recipe from Martha . . .

Ingredients

Serves 16

1/2 cup sugar
1 tablespoon dried lavender
4 bottles (750 mL) dry Champagne or sparkling wine, chilled
Fresh lavender sprigs, for garnish

Directions

Bring sugar and 1/2 cup water to a boil in a saucepan, stirring to dissolve sugar. Stir in dried lavender. Remove from heat. Let cool completely. Strain out lavender. Refrigerate syrup until ready to serve (up to 1 month).
Pour about 6 ounces Champagne and 1 1/2 teaspoons syrup into each flute. Garnish each with a lavender sprig.

Face it ladies – no matter what you bridesmaids tell you, most them WONT actually wear that dress again. (Even though it made your wedding day look amazing) So why not do something incredible and make someone’s prom day amazing. The Glass Slipper Project is a non-profit organization that gives away free prom dresses and accessories to high school Juniors and Seniors in the Chicagoland and surrounding areas. The Glass Slipper Project collects new and almost-new formal dresses and accessories and provides them, free of charge, to students who are unable to purchase their own prom attire. Students do not need to prove any type of financial hardship in order to get a dress from us.

The Glass Slipper Project distributes the dresses at the Glass Slipper “boutiques”each prom season, where each student receives individual assistance from a volunteer “personal shopper” as she shops for the dress of her dreams. To date, this organization has helped more than 16,000 young women attend their proms in style!

And I am certainly not telling you how to write off being a bridesmaid – but if you mail the dress in with a self addressed stamped envelope, The Glass Slipper Project will mail you back a tax receipt. And everyone wins.

Nautical Wedding Inspirations

Who says you can’t have nautical touches for your Colorado or Wyoming Mountain Wedding? Even if you aren’t at the Grand Lake Yacht Club, there are easy and simple ways to add a ocean / beachy design nod to your wedding. It can be as simple as a color scheme (think navy, kelly green and white if you are trying for an east coast look) or the addition of sand, driftwood and a surfboard for a west coast feel. Enjoy some nautical nuptial nods . . .

This one is sure to be a crowd pleaser for any summer wedding (beachy or not!) Technically called a Gale at Sea – this lovely little blue number could be the perfect something blue for you wedding.

Gale At Sea
1½ oz. vodka
½ oz. dry vermouth
½ oz. Galliano
½ oz. blue Curaçao

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and ingredients. Shake and pour into a martini glass.
