Resisting the Panic Purchase . . .

There is a common phenomenon that occurs with about 1/4 of my clients about 3 weeks before their wedding.  It is impulse for the panic purchase.  While dealing with final payments and seating charts and the reality that your entire family and all of your friends are about to meet his entire family and all of his friends – brides can easily go into panic mode.  Fear that somehow what they have done isn’t enough . . .The design isn’t finished . . .

This was the case with Amy for her July wedding at Red Rocks (full wedding post coming soon . . .)  My response was to NOT let her spend any more money. Honestly, the 3 week additions are often merely a panic impulse and I think that a good and honest florist / event designer will NOT play on fear to make more money.  In this case, I gently reminded Amy that we had covered all of her bases in terms of design and decor and that she was going to Bora Bora on a honeymoon.  And let’s face it – blend-y drinks in the South Pacific are not cheap.  I told her that I would rather she trust our design and enjoy a blend-y drink with her new husband on a raft than spend a few extra hundred dollars with me.  And this is the picture I was sent . . .

This picture along with a very sweet thank you note.  Personally,  I think this is worth much much more than a few bucks.  Forging an honest relationship with brides and grooms before, during and after their weddings is what matters the most to me.  So let’s work to create a look and design that you love and let’s stick to your budget.  Because I can’t wait for lots more blend-y drink thank you photos . . .
